Sadly, the Editorial team at the Border Telegraph and Peebleshire News failed to post online reporting they printed hard copy only in the Border Telegraph on 12 June, TWO AND A HALF WEEKS AGO. But after my phone call today, they’ve posted their coverage at last, even if excruciatingly late – https://www.bordertelegraph.com/news/24422112.borders-election-candidates-highlight-goals-region/
Disappointingly, BBC Radio Scotland coverage that all candidates provided to the Selkirk news team in the first week of June, a month ago, is hidden. I am hopeful, however, after contacting the Selkirk news team just now that BBC Scotland will get its act together and post online their own BBC journalists’ equitable coverage.
Local TD9 Radio, however, has now provided an online link to their recording of the Hawick Community Council hustings from a week ago, broadcast on TD9 Radio yesterday, 30 June – https://td9radio.online/replay/hustings2024
All in all, with just over two days of campaigning left, local Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk electors have been badly let down and disenfranchised both by Royal Mail failing to deliver postal ballot packs, *and* by reputable, accredited print and broadcast news organisations effectively censoring candidates by silencing them and leaving electors completely at the mercy of unreliable social media.
And I’m a fan and champion of mainstream media journalism.
