Proud volunteering moment on Wed 12 June…

Delighted that not only have I helped plant this lettuce but I’ve helped harvest the crop that outlasts Conservative prime ministers to go to the local food bank, and help the gorgeous local community enjoy nutritious fresh food to supplement generously donated dried and canned goods. Many constituents living in poverty struggle to obtain regular vouchers for fresh food so community gardens are doing their best to fill the gap by growing food locally instead. It’s humbling just how many constituents quietly need the food and nutrition support but are too proud either to ask for it or actively go out to seek it. And I totally understand their need to preserve what little dignity they can maintain in the face of constant belittling and criminalisation caused by austerity and horrific public services funding cuts applied by the Conservative government throughout UK irrespective of any devolved government policies.
